Careers in Planning
Town planning is a rewarding career with boundless job opportunities. Town planners can use their skills in the public or private sector. These skills can be transferred world wide.
An education in town planning allows people to progress into various specialist areas. Statutory planning, strategic planning, urban design and project management are just a few examples.
Town planners are engaged in controversial local, national and international issues, such as climate change, housing supply, population change and building sustainable communities. Town planners also lead high profile development projects such as planning for the Olympic Games, or driving the reclamation, redevelopment and regeneration of significant sites such as the former BHP lands in Newcastle.
At the centre of town planning is the need to strike a balance between conflicting interests such as development, environmental protection, economic and social needs.
